We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dave More and Andy Collins (pictured above left to right above) as Head Coaches for the 1st XV for the 2011 season. Dave and Andy both bring a wealth of coaching experience to the team and will be assisted by technical advisors experienced coach Greg Hand and ex Hurricane player Shane Carter whose expertise will give us a very well rounded coaching team. The Team this year will be managed by Colleen Rusbatch and Tiernach Farrell will be the team’s medic.
There is one warm-up game scheduled for 27th March against Timaru Boys (at SKC)and then a three day tournament in Christchurch at Easter prior to the start of the Highlander Competition in term 2. The coaching and management team will be meeting with the players next week to discuss the 2011 season. Details will be posted on the blog and sent home to parents as soon as they are confirmed.
Is democracy important to you? Having the freedom to have your say, to make decisions about how your country is ruled? How can people complain about the state of the nation if they don't use the voice they are given? What if that voice was taken away from you?
The Governement are running an essay competition that is open to all high school students. The topic is: How would you increase the understanding and participation of young people in our democracy? (word limit = 1500 words, typed). Three entries per school are permitted within the Waitaki area. The winner's name and essay for the Waitaki Electorate will submitted to the Association of Former Members of Parliament who will determine the New Zealand winning entry.
I strongly encourage students of St Kevin's to enter this contest, particularly those who have a political or legal bent! Essays must be submitted to K Powell, HOD English, by 30 March 2011.
