Aotearoa United Nations Youth Declaration

If you ever wanted to make a difference but weren't quite sure where to start, try joining the United Nations Youth New Zealand.  Along with 191 other young people from around the country, Ella Hitchcock (Y12) had the opportunity to travel to Auckland in the school holidays to take part in the Aotearoa United Nations Youth Declaration.  Held at the Auckland School of Business the Youth Declaration is a process for young people to make a real difference.  The delegates were divided into 14 focus groups and set with the task of writing seven value and policy statements about their group.  Ella was in the Law and Order focus group.  After the statements were presented the delegates debated the policies and their merits before they were passed on to the relevant Government Department's Youth Development programme, with the chance of being put on the "official" table for discussion and possible policy change.  What an amazing experience Ella!
