Principal's Comment

Kia ora Kevinians and Supporters of the College

News that the Secondary Teacher's Collective agreement is in the process of being ratified is both a relief and an acknowledgement of worth for our profession. I am grateful that the core business of teaching and learning can continue as our primary focus and that the increase in both pay and terms and conditions will make teaching a more desirable career. Attracting young talent to our rather depleted ranks needs to be a priority and I see this agreement as a real step forward.

This week the Aoraki Principal's met for professional development with Karen Tui Boyes from Spectrum Education. One of the key points that Karen highlighted was the importance of having shared values and a language of learning that is clearly articulated throughout our Colleges.
I was pleased to reflect that we are on track with this, as it links directly to the Board of Trustees strategic plan. Next Wednesday we welcome our new Board as it has its first meeting. We wish them every blessing in their governance role.

Finally, we keep the Waitaki Boy's community in our prayers as they face the loss of both present and past students in the TY Duncan Road fatality.
