Tree Planting- Sunday 27th June

A final reminder of the tree planting that is happening this Sunday 27th June, starting 9.30am and meeting at the Redcastle.

Jimmy will kindly have all the trees at the top of the hill to make it much easier for the planters, so you won't have to carry them up! This will make it a lot quicker and we anticipate to be finished at lunchtime.

Let's hope we get a day like this! Please spread the word!

Please email jmcgeown@stkevins.school.nz if you would like to put your name down, or have any questions about the morning.

'Te Ngakau Nui ' ('The Heart of Us') to replace the old Home and School Network

Kia Ora Friends of St Kevin's College

The College whanau has welcomed a new group which has been set up to replace the old 'Home and School' network. The group is called 'Te Ngakau Nui ' which means 'The Heart of Us' and the aim of the group is to provide fundraising and community events for the school community which aim to engage parents and caregivers in the life of the school.

The group is calling for registrations of interest for lay members whom the group can call on for practical support from time to time. This does not involve going to any meetings but is simply an expression that you are happy to help with events from time to time.

Please register with the group by emailing Jo Walshe at jwalshe@stkevins.school.nz with your name, contact number and skills you can offer. We would love to hear from artists, builders, electricians, lighting designers, DJ's, sound experts, choreographers, gardeners, tree planters, painters, cooks and everything in between! Anyone who is an enthusiastic team player and willing to donate a few hours a year.

The aim is to help share the workload around the community and to bring people together to continue to help SKC be the best it can be.

Football Coaches Required

We are still desperately needing coaches for our Girls and Senior Boys football teams.

The girls team will play on a Wednesday night, and the Senior Boys will play on Saturday in the Timaru league (home and away).

It would be a shame to withdraw teams should we fail to get these roles filled. Please put the word out in the community. It is possible to share the roles and arrange a roster.

If you are interested in helping out please contact Jimmy McGeown jmcgeown@stkevins.school.nz or Sarah Clapperton sclapperton@stkevins.school.nz

Seeking Football Coaches

We have recently held Football trials at school and are pleased to announce we have the makings of three strong competitive teams. One girls team and two boys teams.

The girls team will play on Wednesday night like last year, and the two boys teams will play on Saturday in the Timaru league (home and away). We have a 1st XI boys team in the U18 grade and a Junior boys team in the U14 grade. The Junior boys will practice at 6pm Tuesday and Thursday as this is the only time available for the coach.

We desperately need coaches and managers for the other two and are seeking volunteers for these roles.

Help Needed for Diabetes Study

As many of you will know my daughter Bridie has Type One Diabetes. She is able to take great care of herself because she is fortunate enough to have been involved in many trials using cutting edge medical technology.

A team at University of Otago are currently undertaking a study into the effectiveness in improving Diabetes Management using a system called the Dexcom G6 which Bridie currently uses and has had success with. In order to do that, they need a supply of phones which will run the G6 system which tests blood sugar levels every five minutes and prevents serious cases of hypoglycemia.

In the interests of saving the planet and saving the team money, I am wondering if anyone has any old phones of the types listed below that they would like to donate to the cause. I will be more than happy accept these next week.

Warm regards

Jo Walshe
