The College was very proud to have the Girls Rowing 8 invited to the Waikato last weekend to row in The Great Gallagher Race. With two boats on the river for each race a time trail on Saturday saw the crew able to pick their own course and successfully seeded third before rowing in the B Final the following day against Baradene from Auckland, finishing fourth overall.
The weekend was an excellent experience for the crew and the strategic differences of rowing in a river against a current, having to plot a course along a bank and then cross through bridges was a wonderful learning opportunity. However the Girls Rowing 8 held their own putting on a great performance in tricky circumstances, with more experienced crews crashing into bridge pylons and each other!
The event was superbly organised, and our thanks to Waikato Dio who lent the girls gear and offered the use of their shed for the event. Well done.
