Congratulations to Tiana Mihaere and Helena Graham on their selection to the U17 Canterbury Country Girls Basketball team. Made up from players in the Canterbury district from outside of Christchurch City the girls have been busy clocking up long miles and hours travelling to training sessions held in Timaru, Ashburton or Kaiapoi each week. During Queen's Birthday Weekend the team competed at the Junior Invitational Tournament in Christchurch and won against the U17 Christchurch Metro teams. The team head to the national competition in North Harbour in July and are displaying great potential under the coaching of Timaru based Sean Fuller.
The opportunity to be seen playing at nationals will allow Tiana and Helena to put up their best shots in front of the national age group selectors prior to the NZ Koru trials. Helena made reserve for the New Zealand side last year and her goal is to be selected for a place in the team this year. The girls are continuing to raise the level of success in girls basketball at the College.
