URGENT - DISTURBING SOCIAL MEDIA CONTENT

We have received reports of a disturbing video that has been circulated on social media sites including Facebook, TikTok and Twitter. Netsafe has reported that it has been removed from Facebook and other social media sites are in the process of removing this video. However, there is a significant amount of discussion on these social media platforms and this could be just as upsetting to young people.

The following information is from Netsafe on how to approach this and other disturbing online content:

· Our Online Safety Parent Toolkit is a wider framework for helping parents navigate online safety with their young people
· For some whānau, parental controls may be an appropriate solution to help filter out graphic content
· If students would like further support they can contact Youthline on free text 234 or call 0800 376 633

If you think your child has viewed the video or is in some way upset by the ongoing discussions they may see online, please do not hesitate to contact Mat Harris (mharris@stkevins.school.nz) who will provide further advice and support.
