Teen Ag Regional Champions

There was no rest over Easter for Ella Sanderson and Holly Malcom (High Country Hillbillies placed 1st), and Georgia Malcom and Brittany Caldwell (Gumboot Girls placed 2nd), as they competed in two teams of two in the last Regional Final of the Teen Ag event held at the Mackenzie County Show.   The Teen Ag Competition Series started in 2011 and is run alongside the ANZ Young Farmer Contest Regional Finals across the seven Young Farmer Regions.  The competition is structured into eight modules which can test anything and everything farm related.  The top scoring seven teams continue through to a Race-Off challenge where contestants' team work is tested as they complete a series of tasks as fast as possible.  The top three teams from each Regional Final will battle it out for the national title at the Grand Final held in Christchurch, 3-5 July.  Fundraising will be needed to send these girls to nationals - we wish them all the best.

This success is timely as we are rejuvenating the Young Farmers Club at the College.  A committee has been elected and a meeting attended with other school groups in our region.  There are plans to hold a quiz night, a local "Teen Ag" style event and students also want to learn about stock judging.  If you can offer any expertise, time or resources we would love to hear from you.  Please contact Mrs Eatherley or the Chairperson of SKC Young Farmers, Brittany Caldwell.
