Congratulations to Sarah Dodd and past SKC pupil Ami Wallace who were presented with their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award at a ceremony in Christchurch with the Governor General last Saturday.
I would also like to acknowledge this year's Class Act award recipients, Rebecca Whittet and Molly Kay who had their awards presented by the Prime Minister, Mrs Jacinda Adern last week. These awards highlight the ongoing support staff and whanau have given, to sustaining a diverse and rich co-curricular offering for our students. This typifies our touchstone of Liberating Education.
Thank you also to all the managers, coaches and caregivers who have helped with teams away at winter tournament week. This has been a major undertaking with teams sprinkled all over the South Island. Thank you to Mrs Burton and the staff who remained at school, for your support and organisational skills filling the gaps. I had the pleasure of supporting the Netball Girls at the Edgar Centre in Dunedin on Tuesday and was impressed with their commitment and spirit of fair play. At the assembly this week I encouraged students to reflect on and say thank you for the many opportunities that staff and whanau offer and support at our College.
This weekend Mr Mullally and I will be taking a group of students to the Edmund Rice conference in Christchurch. The theme is Wellness and we are looking forward to sharing ideas and hearing keynote addresses about best practice for schools. The topic is particularly current with the review of NCEA underway and the pressure some students are under trying to deal with the many commitments involved.
May God bless you all
