St Thomas' were affirming, and St Kevin's were negating. There was some very interesting discussion and debate.

SKC won 260 -241.

Well done to all who took part.

Waitaki Week Blessing

At assembly on Wednesday the captains of our sports teams carried out the pounamu blessing, to bless all of our teams who have competed, or are yet to compete in Waitaki Week.

May the fluidity of the water that has shaped this stone over the years be an inspiration for positive encounters in the spirit of fair play.

May the physical weight of this stone inspire you to have the strength to engage with both passion and pride.

All the very best to our 1st XV in their match today at 1.30pm.

WBHS-SKC Interschool match Friday 3rd July

WBHS-SKC Interschool match Friday 3rd July, 1.30pm Whitestone Contracting Stadium

The necessity to provide a safe physical and emotional environment for students and staff has lead to some changes being made to the organisation of this years event.

Public will be required to enter the ground through the turnstiles at the south-east corner of the ground. Public will also be required to stay within the cordoned off area on eastern side of the ground (this includes the grandstand). Students and staff will enter the ground from gates behind the western embankment and will be required to stay on the embankment (western) side of the ground.

A reminder, that this is a school sanctioned public event and is therefore alcohol free and spectators should not be intoxicated.

Both schools ask for your support with these changes, so we can ensure that our students and staff are safe and that the "class of 2020" can be allowed to enjoy writing their 'chapter' in the wonderful history of this unique event.

Darryl Paterson (Rector WBHS), Paul Olsen (Principal SKC).

Bishop's Shield 2019

St Kevin’s College attended the Bishop’s Shield at Verdon College in Invercargill over the weekend. We competed in speech, debating, drama, impromptu speech, and scripture reading. Our team delivered some stand out performances and did themselves and the school proud.

Congratulations to our Senior Debating team who were awarded first place! Our team was affirming and they defeated St Peter's College, attaining the highest points' aggregate. Cara Anderson, Bethan Ardouin and Joel Kunnethedam passionately debated the topic that the government is delivering good outcomes for New Zealand.

Well done to Cara who was awarded Best Team Leader and to Joel who was awarded Best Speaker.

A big thanks must go to our large contingent of teachers who travelled to coach the students. Congratulations to Kavanagh College (Dunedin) for winning the Bishop Shield overall.

Dunedin Symphony Orchestra Music Education Tour

At the end of last term we were lucky to have Jen Cattermole and Sandra Crawshaw from the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra music education tour come and visit us.

The tour involved a talk and workshop around one of the pieces the DSO is performing in August, called 'From the Southern Marches' by local composer Anthony Ritchie. Because the piece is about the history of Otago right from first contact between Maori and Pakeha, it uses Maori musical instruments (taonga puoro).

They brought with them taonga puoro, for the students to listen to, learn about, and play. They also spoke to us about how the piece links to the history of the Otago region.

St Kevin's College vs Waitaki Boys High School Rugby Interschool Match

A tough battle out their today on the field, which didn't go our way. 37-18 doesn't reflect the SKC effort. Congratulations to Waitaki Boys on your win.

We are proud of our boys, and proud of our supporters, our old boys and old girls, and how they conducted themselves.

It has been a great week, with lots of school spirit shown throughout. SKC took wins in 8 of the 14 fixtures, which is an awesome result! Well done to all of our teams, coaches, managers, parents and supporters.

Thank you to our photographers Michelle Buckham (crowd), Sarah Clapperton (game).

Special Assembly- Waitaki Week

Today we had an assembly to mark the end of Waitaki Week, and recognise other special achievements from throughout the term.

We also welcomed back the 1969 St Kevin's College rugby team for their 50 year reunion, which features our very own Mr Russell Dixon.

Captain Peter Reichwein spoke about life at the college in their time, and their match against Waitaki Boys in their interschool, which SKC won 9-0. Despite being 50 years ago, he could recall exactly how the match happened!

The captains of our sports teams also carried out the pounamu blessing, to bless all of our teams who have competed, or are yet to compete in Waitaki Week.

All the very best to our 1st XV in their match today at 1.30pm.

Thank you to Michelle Buckham for the photos.
