Principal's Comment

Kia ora Kevinian's and Supporters of the College

The focus of the week for the middle school has been the Year 11 Retreat. Powhiri protocol, mihi and waiata have been practiced and today the year group are reaping benefits of their hard work. It is always an honour to be welcomed onto the Moeraki Marae and today's noho marae continues to strengthen the links with our local rūnanga. Thank you to Dean -Miss Casey, DRS -Mr Mullully, Maori Studies Adviser- Mrs Plunkett and their team for their valuable contribution.

The Year 12 students participated in the "Love Me Not" programme on Wednesday. Last year the College was part of the first trial delivery and this year the modified and enhanced programme was delivered to students. This has been coordinated by the foundation established by Lesley Elliot after the tragic murder of Sophie, her daughter. Forming appropriate and healthy relationships is an important aspect of personal development and we acknowledge the support of the New Zealand Police, Safer Communities and the Sophie Elliot Trust as we challenge our young people to make healthy choices.

The Career's Team have been very active this week. We had a visit from the Defense Force recruiter who talked to an enthusiastic group of students about opportunities in the forces. This was followed later in the week by Year 10 Work Exploration. Thank you to Mr Hitchcock for leading this valuable initiative. With planning for 2015 in mind, I attended a meeting of local schools and providers to consolidate the VPath course provision for next year. I am pleased to report that we will have an Introduction to Trades and an Introduction to the Service Sector to supplement our Agriculture course. These will be offered through the Oamaru campus of Aoraki Polytechnic.

We wish all our weekend sports teams all the very best and hope that Forsyth Barr Stadium sees a win for the All Blacks as well.

May God bless you
Paul Olsen, Principal
