Principal's Comment

Kia ora Kevinians and supporters of the College.

Week seven of the term has provided a rich mix of academic, sporting and cultural endeavors for students.  The highlights have been NCEA assessment, the Southern Catholic Secondary Schools Junior Sports Tournament and the House Drama afternoon.

Regrettably I was unable to go down to Dunedin for the Junior Tournament, but feedback from those attending was very positive. We were placed second overall in the tournament which was an excellent result considering we do not have a full complement of Year 7 and 8 teams. Thank you to Kavanagh College for organizing an extremely well run event. Thank you also to our Head of sport, Miss Casey, our team coaches, staff, parents and supporters.

On Thursday afternoon we held our annual House Drama competition. This was an opportunity for budding thespians to perform in front of the College. We were treated to a menu featuring everything from home grown humour through to the old "Blackadder" and "Monty-Python" classic skits. Congratulations to Treacy House who were placed first, Mark Whittet and Isobel Ryan who were best actors and Kate Wedge and Lucy Tyrell from Treacy who were best directors. Thank you to past pupil, Bridget McNally, who was our guest adjudicator.

The Board of Trustees had their final meeting for the term and accepted with regret the resignation of Mrs L Sutherland from the BOT. This causes a casual vacancy on the Board. The BOT proposes to fill this vacancy by a process of co-options and is now officially calling for expressions of interest from interested parties. If you would like to be considered for co-option, please contact the BOT returning officer, Mrs Sue McErlane at the College office.

As we come to end of term, preparations are well underway for the College Ball, with dancing lessons for seniors being held in the Dining Room this week. Our skilled tutors, Mike and Madeline, are working with the group to have them dancing like stars. We look forward to seeing the results next week and I look forward to meeting many of you at the ball parade.

May God bless you all
Paul Olsen, Principal
