South Island Secondary School Rowing

"Silver & Bronze” Medals for SKC athletes who attended this weekends South Island Secondary Schools Regatta held at Lake Ruataniwha Twizel. We completed in 14 events and secured 5 A finals and 3 B finals. Due to strong winds on the Sunday the finals were not able to be raced and the regatta organisers then awarded medals based on the times from the heats. This meant that SKC gained the following South Island results:
Silver Adam Sew Hoy & Reuben Mihaere Boys Under 18 Lightweight Double
Bronze Georgia Dyson & Molly Kay Girls Under 16 Double
4th Reuben Mihaere Boys Under 16 Single
4th Adam Sew Hoy & Kalas Taukamo Boys Under 16 Double
5th Sydney Telfer & Molly Kay Girls Under 18 Double
B Finals were Sydney Telfer Girls Under 18 Single,  Charlie Wallis Boys Under 17 Single.  Charlie Wallis & Reuben Mihaere Boys Under 17 Double.

All athletes that attended the regatta showed marked improvements from previous regattas and were happy to have represented the College at this elite level of competition. Of special note was the gutsy performance in the Under 15 Girls Double by Katie McKeown and Abbey Mabon holding off Marlborough Girls in their heat race on the Saturday.  Stew Mitchell, having relocated to Nelson, followed the SKC athletes progress and was thrilled to see all of the athletes achieving their own personal milestones at this regatta.

We look forward now to “Head of the Harbour” Regatta this weekend on Saturday where most of the SKC Competitive Squad and the Youth Development Squad will be representing the College and wish Georgia Dyson, Molly Kay and Reuben Mihaere all the best in their final preparation for MAADI CUP 2015 to be held in Cambridge later this month.
