Senior Quadrangular Success
This year’s ‘Catholic Schools Quadrangular Tournament’, hosted by Verdon College, actually became a ‘Triangular Tournament’ as Kavanagh chose not to participate. However, this did not dampen spirits, with St Peter’s and St Kevin’s students travelling to Invercargill to compete fiercely in 10’s rugby, netball, boys’ hockey, and boys’ and girls’ football and basketball games. Southland turned on perfect weather for a brilliant day of sports, with St Kevin’s having particularly good wins in both of the boys’ football games (8-0 against Verdon and 7-0 against St Peters), and in boys’ hockey (4-0 against Verdon). There was tight competition in some sports, such as the girl's basketball, where St Kevin's had a narrow 39-37 win over St Peter's. All teams played hard and fair, and their efforts paid off, with St Kevin’s finishing the day as overall winners, on 31 points compared to Verdon’s 28 and St Peter’s 24 points. Well done to all of those who took part, and many thanks to all of the staff, coaches and parents who made the long trip to Invercargill to make sure the day was a success. We look forward to defending the trophy when the tournament is held at home in Oamaru next year!
